Description: The following are the key areas of responsibility:
? Serve as the primary scientific leader and subject expert in developing and optimizing products and services in the areas of stem cell biology
? Develop a program strategy and meet results relative to program goals and product requirements
? Oversee the strategy and development of methods for the generation of stem cell based products
? Oversee the development and expansion facilities for stem cell culture and stem cell lines
? Evaluate external target technologies for possible licensing and/or acquisition.
? Write, prepare and present project summaries and/or reports
? Interface closely with R&D and other functions in the development of stem cell related products and research
? Hire, manage and develop the stem cell research team (staff of 7-12 scientific and support staff)
? Maintain expertise with current relevant scientific literature and findings and apply to maximize departmental effectiveness
? Identify, allocate and direct appropriate resources to meet project requirements
? Ensure proper verification and validation of new products
? Direct scientific evaluation and validity of proposals generated either within R&D or presented for evaluation by the Business Development group
? As needed, research, develop, establish and maintain relationships with external consultants.
? Provide direction and work with the team to insure department plans are effective, timely and realistic to meet set goals
? Direct development efforts across multiple departments and locations
? Define and prioritize projects and product life cycle management processes
? Develop and manage related project and departmental budgets
? Work in conjunction with applicable staff to develop quality control and manufacturing requirements and other documentation for new products and processes
The successful candidate will have the following background and experience:
? Ph.D. in a life sciences discipline (developmental biology or related field)
? Minimum of 5 years? postdoctoral or industry experience in stem cell research (human embryonic stem cell research strongly preferred)
? Demonstrated expertise in R&D applications of stem cell research
? Proven team development and management skills required, including budget responsibility
? Well developed strategic planning abilities and business acumen
? Strong communication, analytical and leadership skills
? Experience in managing multiple priorities, products and teams in a fast-paced environment
? Track record in leading new product development/marketing efforts to successful completion
? Ability to understand market trends, financial data, customer needs and assess competitive intelligence data
? Effective presentation skills
? Strong creative and conceptual thinking skills
? Strong problem resolution skills
? Ability to foster a team environment with shared goals
